We get e-mails frequently from past customers
telling us how much they love their new pet
parrot. Why? Because we spend lots of
one-on-one time with each bird we raise. Our
birds are well socialized and very sweet
natured. Selling birds that are "sweethearts" is
good for business, so we work hard at it. They
also are on a nutritious diet...
We are committed to raising happy-healthy
birds here at Wisconsin Parrots. So how do we
do that???
1. Diet. Our babies are weaned on a wide
variety of foods which includes...SunSeed Vita
Parrot or Cockatiel mix, Zupreem Natural
Parrot or Cockatiel pellets, a cooked soft food
mix which contains red wheat, brown rice,
pearled or hulled barley, quinoa, pinto beans,
whole wheat or regular pasta, lentils & mixed
vegetables. Our birds get seasonal fruits,
vegetables and greens from our large garden.
We also feed sprouted red wheat (very
nutritious), and birdie bread (Bobbi Brinker's
recipe).
2. We do not sell un-weaned babies, nor do we
force wean our babies. We do not have a
schedule we follow to tell us when to stop hand
feeding our birds, we let the birds tell us when
they are weaned. This helps the birds be more
trusting towards us, and leads to a much
sweeter pet.
3. Proper fledging. Say what? We make sure
that all of our baby birds become good fliers
before any wings are trimmed. We spend time
on this daily. This helps to insure that you get
a confident bird. If a bird can maneuver with
confidence, there is less of a chance of injury.
Trimming or not trimming wings is a personal
choice. After fledging, any bird for sale gets
trimmed (unless a customer wants a fully
flighted bird). We do this because when we are
showing our birds to someone we can't have
them flying all over the house. We do
recommend trimming wings to our customers.
Do a search on the net on the advantages and
disadvantages of wing clipping.
